TEI Hollow Bar Installation Method
Every June TEI Rock Drills holds a Hollow Bar Installation School at their facility in Western Colorado. This event is two and a half days full of classroom instruction, field training and social events with all attendees. The classroom instructors are recognized experts in their respective categories, such as grouting or testing, and all hold advanced degrees in engineering. TEI technicians instruct on the drilling equipment and the grout plants are managed by the owners and technicians of their respective companies. The instructor to student ratio at the TEI school is one instructor for every two attendees.
The Hollow Bar Installation School is an excellent opportunity to receive training for yourself or to send your crews for training. The event is limited to 30 attendees to ensure an excellent experience for everyone. The group is split into two groups of 15 with one group outside drilling while the other group is in TEI’s classroom. Outside there are two stations with one drill and one grout plant. And two stations to perform a tension test on a micropile. This grouping allows all attendees plenty of time on each piece of equipment.
Instruction covers all aspects of hollow bar installation. The classroom topics include the TEI Method for Installation, grouting principles, and case studies from contractors using hollow bars. Also included is overview of design of micropiles and soil nails along with step by step instructions on how to properly test a hollow bar micropile. Outside the instructors cover the operation and maintenance of every machine. Troubleshooting mechanical and drilling problems. Basically anything that can happen in the field curing a hollow bar project.
This school always sells out early so it is highly recommended that you register before March to attend. To help meet this high demand TEI has decided to host a Hollow Bar Installation Seminar on May 4th in Columbus, North Carolina at the yard of their distributor, Foothills Drilling. This will be a one-day event with classroom instruction and a demonstration of the install but there will be no instruction on the operation of the equipment.
