TEI Rock Drills held their annual Open House on September 21-22, 2016. The TEI Open House is planned for the owners and management of drilling companies who are both existing and future TEI customers. Attendees are given a tour of the TEI manufacturing facility in the morning before settling into the TEI classroom for presentations from our worldwide distributors and customers. Demonstrations of the TEI equipment are performed outside after lunch. The evening event is a dinner held in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, the first night on a balcony overlooking the mountains and the second night in an old western saloon. Time is also made available to see the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, visit Telluride or Ourey and of course play the local golf courses.
The 2016 TEI Open House was focused on health and safety, and what better way to promote health and safety than to invite the ADSC’s very own Rick Marshall to the event. Rick gave a great presentation on the dangers of silica and also reviewed the existing and upcoming OSHA regulations on the substance. All attendees were appreciative of Rick’s presence during the event and his openness to answer questions. After lunch the new TEI water misting system for dust control was demonstrated using the TD100 electric drill rig. This simple and effective unit showed that dust control is possible without much hassle on the jobsite and we should all be concerned about workers and dust/silica.
The second safety presentation was the introduction of TEI’s new HCC-10 casing handler. This unique equipment is an attachment for mini-excavators used to safely install and remove drill pipes and casings from anchor/micropile machines. This innovative equipment has been well-received and is in use in the field already, allowing drilling contractors to greatly improve the safety of their workers and also increase production by using longer drill rods with faster change-out.
The final new product demonstrated at the 2016 open house was, of course, a rock drill. The TE726 is our newest drifter model. It is designed for production drilling on surface quarry rigs and underground jumbos. Built with a high frequency and hard hitting percussion unit, the TE726 is already in the final testing period and will be launched commercially at ConExpo this coming March in Las Vegas.
Days at the TEI Open House are filled with informative presentations and after a nice lunch each piece of equipment is demonstrated on TEI’s property. But, just talking about equipment and jobsites is not all this event is about. TEI Rock Drills wants to promote connectivity between our guests so that attendees leave our events with not only new information, but also new resources. These resources are the people you’ve met and future relationships you develop. For TEI this coming together of like-minded people is as important as the equipment we are demonstrating. Ask anyone who has visited TEI in Montrose, Colorado what this experience is all about. You will like the answer you hear and you will enjoy the reception you receive from the good people at TEI Rock Drills.
